Video Marketing Production LabCreative Filmmaking and Advertising for 2023This course will provide students with hands-on experience through every stage of the video production process and teach them the techniques and strategies to develop any idea into a quality video. The objective of the course is to produce short-form, commercial content for local establishments that the students will present to the clients at the end of the class. It is important to note that the video production landscape is constantly changing. The work of a commercial filmmaker today is very different from what it was five years ago. Considering this, our syllabus focuses on the production of four different types of video, as well as the pillars of good storytelling that connect them.
• Narrative Short• Commercial Promo• Social Media Video• Multimedia Campaign
The students will work together to concept, plan, film, edit, and distribute one video in each of these formats. At the end of the course there will be an Oscars-style ceremony to honor student achievements such as Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor, etc.
Note*Students will receive a crash course in Adobe Premiere Pro in order to understand the basics of editing and be able to import and export their video content. Filming will be done using iPhones and an instructor provided film camera.
Max Ringer is an EWoW Alum, a Columbia graduate with a minor in film, and the President of our Board of Directors. He has created many films, including several documentaries. We are so fortunate that he has a little extra time this spring to work with our students!
