Hello EWoW Community,
March is certainly coming in like a lion this year! There is a Winter Weather Warning in effect Monday 8pm until Wednesday 8am. As you all are aware, the dangers of a Nor'easter involve both precipitation and high winds. Because there is the potential for very heavy wet snow, coupled with high winds, there is also the potential for widespread power outages and downed trees. Damage can be highly localized. Sustained high winds are predicted for Wednesday all day, as well, which has the potential to make driving and clean up hazardous. Sustained high winds are predicted for Wednesday all day.
Due to the predicted weather conditions, we are canceling classes for tomorrow AND for Wednesday all day. We will have make-up days for these canceled days the last week of May on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We have many teachers and students who travel from up to an hour away, both north and south of us. Those north of us are looking at a long couple of days and, potentially, a lot of clean up after the storm is over. Of course, with power outages, communication becomes very difficult as well, and letting everyone know our plans could be impossible after the fact.
If there are widespread power outages and any of you need a place to sleep, warm up, shower, charge devices, etc., you may use the building at 65 Bridge Street. It is on the same grid as the hospital and so is taken care of quickly, in the rare event that power is lost at all. Please text me anytime to let me know and we can arrange to have the building unlocked and the alarm disabled.
Hopefully, we will all come through this unscathed and it will turn out to be a couple of extra days in which to acclimate to Spring Forward and to get ahead on independent academic work at home. Wishing you all a safe, warm, and uneventful next couple of days. Students, if you have independent work, documentaries, or movies to watch, you might consider taking care of that today, just in case you lose power tomorrow. Check your classrooms today for assignments, as well. ;)
OH! And we will plan to celebrate Pi day on Thursday, which will be a lot of fun for returning to classes! Yes, we can have sugar for Pi day!! We had planned to celebrate tomorrow. If you love to bake and don't lose power, please coordinate with Jennie Defazio.
So sad about tomorrow, but looking forward to seeing you all on the 16th. And, of course, St. Patrick's Day on Friday!
Warmly,
Lockey
